Protecting your New Car

If you’re planning on taking delivery of a new car, and you’re anything like us over at Homa Spa, you’re probably wondering how to keep the paint looking pristine.

Although regular and proper car washing will go a long way, nothing will protect your car’s paint from environmental and physical damage as much as ceramic coatings and paint protection films (PPF).

If you’re currently planning on pushing protection off for a later date, we’ll be covering some basics that may make you re-think your car care plan:

  • When should you protect your car – and why?
  • What are ceramic coatings and paint protection films?
  • Our most popular paint protection coverages

When Should You protect Your new car?

The simple answer is to protect your car as soon as you possibly can, but if you’re anything like us over at Homa Spa, you’re probably tempted to enjoy your new ride on the roads the moment you take delivery. Instead, we’ll tell you how protecting your car early will save you time, money, and preserve your car’s value.

Why you should protect your car asap

The moment you drive your car off the lot it is exposed to harsh environmental and road conditions that can lead to small damage that we would typically call “wear and tear”.

Protecting your paint from day one is the best way to slow down this build-up of small damage, all while preventing the headache of maintaining your new paint finish.

PreventS Costly & “Hard-TO-Fix” damage
  • Chemical etchings. minor scuffs, and rock chips are normal wear and tear. However, those types of damage can’t be simply fixed with a car detail. Due to the high cost of repainting panels and the risk of mismatched paint, this wear and tear is usually left to build up.
  • Repainting years worth of damage can be very costly, especially if it’s on a rare or luxury car with expensive OEM paint. The loss of original paint can be very detrimental to the value of certain cars.
Smooth Install of Paint Protection
  • When installed on a fresh clean slate of paint, ceramic coatings last many years, and more than a decade for our high quality paint protection films. Although we thoroughly prep all paint prior to these product applications, installing on new paint is the best way to ensure a strong adhesion between the product and paint.

Ceramic Coatings vs. Paint Protection Film

Paint Protection Film

Paint protection film is a (relatively) thick layer of clear polyurethane plastic that is wrapped over your car. PPF provides immense resistance to physical damage like rock chips and scrapes.

Nano Ceramic Coatings

A ceramic coating is a liquid based polymer that cures into an ultra thin, ultra durable layer. This layer provides UV & chemical resistance as well as self-cleaning properties.

What’s the difference?
Physical Protection
  • Paint protection film is the only way to reduce & prevent physical damage. This includes rock chips, scratches, key marks, and other minor scuffs.
  • Ceramic coatings are significantly harder than automotive clear coat. However, they aren’t scratch proof. Increased hardness can help reduce swirl marks, but this is mostly thanks to the self-cleaning properties which reduce the amount of dirt present during a hand wash.

If you want to prevent rock chips and missing paint, PPF is your best bet. You can read more about why we think PPF is the best paint protection.

Elemental Protection
  • Paint protection films guarantee that your paint will never get etched. Although PPF is significantly more resistant to etching than your paint, the film itself is still prone to etching if not properly maintained.
  • Ceramic coatings offer unparalleled elemental protection, meaning your paint has reduced risk of acquiring etches caused by chemicals, dead bugs, and bird droppings.

Pairing PPF with a ceramic coating ensures your car is protected from everything it may come across! Otherwise, regularly waxing or applying a sealant on your PPF will ensure adequate elemental protection.

Durability
  • Both paint protection film & ceramic coatings have great durability and warranties, but our PPF will last upwards of 10 years, while coatings will last about half that.
Gloss & Shine
  • Paint protection films & ceramic coatings will both provide your vehicle with immense shine and gloss.
